“The Pirate’s Daughter” Completes Production

Tall Ship Productions is happy to announce the completion of its latest short, “The Pirate’s Daughter”, produced for the May 2008 Tucson 48-hour Film Shootout competition.

In its fourth iteration, the Shootout was held from Friday, May 23rd through Sunday, May 25th.  Twenty-two teams were at the pre-production meeting held at The Loft and minutes before the 6:45pm cutoff, 10 teams had yet to turn in their tapes.  The final count of eligible teams will be announced at the screening on June 12th.

The team from Tall Ship Productions was assigned, by random draw, the Comedy genre.  Other elements assigned by contest organizers were:

  • The character name “Karen Beasley”
  • A plate imprinted with the face of a monkey
  • The line: “This may sound weird, but I have dreams about what I am supposed to do.”

Contest rules require that all three elements be used in the film by main characters to show that the production was done during the 48-hours of the competition.

Interview with Arizona Daily Star hits newsstands

Phil Villarreal from the Arizona Daily Star recently did a phone interview with Renee to talk about the 48-hour film shootout.  Renee did a great job of highlighting the fun we had putting together the film and how we were extremely excited and honored to be selected as Best Picture.

We are looking forward to getting the cast and crew back together after the holidays to celebrate and to brainstorm plot lines for the March competition.

“First Date” selected as Best Picture

Tall Ship Production’s “First Date” was selected as Best Picture by a panel of judges at the Tucson 48-hour Film Shootout competition.

19 teams set out on Friday, Oct 12, 2007 to make a 4 - 7 minute film in 48 hours that included three elements provided by the competition organizers:

  • A rubber spider
  • A character named Bill Ding
  • The dialog “it’s a little bit tricky for people who aren’t used to it”

15 teams turned in films on Sunday but three were disqualified for either being late or not including one of the required elements.

“First Date” also captured Audience Favorite honors - a vote held after viewing all the qualifying films.

We are excited to have had our film be honored by both the judges and the audience and are looking forward to the competition in March. There are excellent filmmakers in Tucson and competitions like the 48-hour shootout let us all hone our skills and get our work shown.
